  1. Three Dreams

Recollections of significant dreams which occurred in various stages of my life that had a lasting impact on my emotional development.

One year in elementary school
A dream scared me awake for nights.
Walking through a cave of tunnels
brightened by an unseen light,
The shelves reached high along the sides,
filled with neatly labeled glass,
containing body parts, preserved
for something that was yet to pass.
I did not understand it then.
Why should I think of that again?

When in my teens I can recall
a scene that one night came to me.
It centered on a playground slide,
the long-cracked bell of liberty,
slipping slowly down the ramp,
to plop into a pool of muck
and there begin a steady sink
into the fetid bog it stuck.
I thought I understood it then.
I think about it once again.

I was a young adult in studies,
when one night, while deep in sleep,
a stunning vision woke my slumber
with a choking urge to weep.
I clutched a pile of limp spaghetti
as if to not would finish me.
And when I could hold on no longer,
I let go and I was free.
It had some meaning for me then.
Time has come to dream again.
